o Books Are An Escape From Reality:
A book is supposed to be a place where a person can go and just let their imagination run free. It is a place where you can live vicariously through the characters in front of you. I love that feeling when you get so lost in the story, that you are completely obvious to the reality that surrounds you.
o Books Are A Realm Of Endless Possibilities:
In a realm of endless possibilities, there are no “What if…?” questions. Books grant us the ability to explore the options that reality doesn’t always present us. In books, it is not a matter of “What if…?”, but instead a matter of “When…?”.
o Books Are Diverse:
We all have our favorite genre. My favorite is Young Adult Fiction. Just because I know what I like doesn’t mean that I am bound to that one genre or type of writing. The options are limitless! One day, I might be craving a good love story, which I often am, and so I reach for a YA romance novel. The next day, I might want to try something new, and so I pick up a collection of poetry, a nonfiction novel, etc.
o Books Are My Companions:
I can’t say that this applies to everyone, but for me, I find comfort in the fact that the characters in the books that I love have gone through some of the hardships that I have faced or am currently facing in my life. When a reader can relate to the characters and experience the characters’ emotions with them, I believe that not only makes the writing successful but also creates an unspoken bond between the reader and the author.
o Books Are My Inspiration To Becoming A Better Writer:
When I was just starting out as a writer, I was dead set on reading and writing in the one and only genre that I loved, YA fiction. It wasn’t until I was required to branch out and read poems, memoirs, plays, etc. that I realized I was hiding behind what I knew as a writer, instead of broadening my horizons. Books allowed me to read and experience the perspectives and voices of other authors. Reading those books gave me the confidence to embrace different writing styles, and to be perfectly honest, I fell in love with writing poetry.
